The Petroleum Communication Foundation Legacy Scholarship for Excellence in Communication
The Canadian Centre for Energy Information has established annual scholarships for students enrolled in public relations or journalism programs at six education institutes across Canada.
The Petroleum Communication Foundation Legacy Scholarship for Excellence in Communication awards students in selected programs and institutions one or more $1,250 scholarships annually. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in communication within the oil and gas industry by submitting a 500 word career objective/personal statement at the time of application detailing why they have selected the oil and gas industry, and what contribution they hope to make through communication.
Among the institutions and programs selected is the University of Victoria's Certificate in Public Relations program, in the Division of Continuing Studies.

CPRS/Dean Miller Scholarship sponsored by Cision
The CPRS/Dean Miller Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship created to commemorate the life and career of public relations great Dean Miller. The scholarship is generously sponsored by Cision.
The scholarship is awarded annually to one deserving student who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership in the community.
2008 CPRS/Dean Miller Scholarship Application Information
In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must be:
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a public relations-related program (degree, diploma or certificate) in BC.
Students who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. All information must be submitted in one package to the CPRS Vancouver office no later
than the scholarship deadline of 4:00 pm, May 1, 2008. The CPRS Vancouver office is
open weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and is located at: #102–211 Columbia Street,
Vancouver, BC V6A 2R5. If you would like additional information about the scholarship

About Dean Miller and Cision
Dean Miller began his career in 1939 with a vision and permission from the principal to use the high school Gestetner printer — he produced a local newspaper for Keremeos. In 1950 he began his career in public relations and eventually became the founder of Western Press Clippings.

2005: Cynnamon Schreinhert
An outstanding academic performance at Kwantlen University College, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an impressive start to a public relations career earned Cynnamon the 2005 Scholarship. Cynnamon will be the publicity director for the Vancouver Fringe Festival for the second year. She has also started her freelance career mainly in the entertainment industry.

2004: Ben Rothe
Ben is an Army officer with eight years of seniority in the rank of major. He holds a BA from the University of Manitoba and is a graduate of Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College. He is studying public relations at both Kwantlen University College and the University of Victoria. Ben volunteers as a communications and public information officer with the B.C. and Yukon Brigade of the St. John Ambulance Association. |
2002: Amanda Malone
After winning the Miller/Cision scholarship, Ms. Malone went on to win the National CPRS Award that same year. As a full-time student at Kwantlen University College she volunteered her communications expertise to both the Loving Spoonful and Quest Outreach Society. She works for The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver as the external communications coordinator. |
2001: Amelia Kathryn Kennedy
After graduating from the PR program at Kwantlen University College, Ms Kennedy accepted a position in the marketing department of Panago Pizza. She then moved to work with Whistler Blackcomb as strategic communications coordinator, with plans to return to school in August 2004 to complete a BA in Applied Communications from Royal Roads. |
1999: Monisha Khanna
After graduation in 1999, Ms Khanna was recruited by and worked for Edelman Public Relations, one of the top international PR firms located in the Silicon Valley. Currently, she is PR manager for a Canadian digital imaging software company, ACD Systems. |
1998: Anita Warbinek-Kirk
Following graduation Ms. Warbinek-Kirk worked as director of tourism for the City of Penticton, tourism coordinator for Delta, and new business developer for the Bernard Hodes Group before landing her dream job in February 2002 as the promotions specialist with Art In Motion. |
1997: Jenny Desjardins-Hubbard
Ms. Hubbard currently works for Kwantlen University College as a marketing and communications coordinator. The year of her graduation from Kwantlen, she was the winner of the President's Outstanding Graduate Award. |
