Job Description

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and its employees are committed to a proactive holistic approach to health and wellness, and to the delivery of services which are sustainable and honour the customs and traditions of First Nations communities.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Officer implements both the internal and external communications programs and projects for the FNHA.  Working with project teams, business leads, business partners, change management and HR the Communications Officer provides specialized expertise in the development and delivery of internal and external communications for the FNHA. This may include press releases, memorandums as well as marketing materials.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and plans internal and external communications services that promote positive relations with employees, communities and the media.
2. Develops and executes FNHA internal and external Communications/ Public Relations for major change initiatives.
3. Provides oversight on projects and interacts with contractors on behalf of the Director, Communications and Public Relations.
4. Provides communication support services for the FNHA departments including the development of communication plans, editing and proofreading materials.
5. Provides advice and guidance to FNHA department leads regarding best practices in effective communication.
6. Manages on-going relationships with key business partners to execute internal communication activities and project deliverables in an effective and timely manner.
7. Develops crisis communication plans as required.
8. Reviews and makes recommendations to improve internal and external communications programs.
9. Provides oversight and coaching support to junior members of the Communications team including peer editing and providing feedback on work.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated project management skills and an ability to partner with and influence individuals and cross-functional teams.
• Outgoing, creative thinker, who demonstrates initiative and flexibility to change, positively rising to challenges presented
• Excellent writing, spelling and grammar. Comfortable synthesizing complex information to write and edit audience-appropriate speeches, communiques, articles and other written materials as appropriate
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, multi-task, set priorities effectively and problem solve, including early
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Understanding of/ demonstrated experience working with BC First Nations Leadership and Communities
• Understanding of health related issues in general and those affecting First Nation communities in particular
• The Communications Officer is highly adaptable and comfortable working in a change environment

 

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
• University Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing
• 4 to 6 years of Communications or Public Relations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven track record for executing high quality communication plans and materials
