Position Title: Marketing & Communications Specialist
Reports To: Director Marketing and Engagement

EducationPlannerBC is B.C.’s provincial application and data exchange hub designed to provide improved access to post-secondary education in B.C. by engaging and informing applications and their supporters throughout their post-secondary research, planning and application process. EducationPlannerBC works to proactively innovate for our applicants, public post-secondary institutions and government partners.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Engagement, the Marketing & Communications Specialist develops and implements creative solutions to meet the needs of EPBC using a mix of creative skills and marketing expertise to impact both internal and external clients. The Marketing & Communications Specialist researches and applies leading practices and trends in social, digital, and traditional marketing and is able to analyze data to optimize marketing strategies, plans and goals. This position will develop and deliver a range of initiatives to improve the use of marketing collateral and design across the EPBC. Given the collaborative nature of EPBC, the Marketing & Communications Specialist, Program Content Specialist, and Student Engagement Specialist will support each others’ duties as required.
Key Accountabilities & Time Allocation
Marketing Delivery & Support (30%)
  • Support the development and implementation of the marketing strategy plan, as requested by the Director, Marketing and Engagement
  • Develop specific marketing goals that align with EPBC’s overall direction and business goals
  • Develop strategic marketing plans around user journey that drive awareness, engagement, and conversion
  • Develop and maintain digital marketing campaigns to increase web traffic
  • Review and analyze social media metrics and ty to observe patterns of behaviour to help formulate marketing plan for different audiences
  • Develop and maintain documentation in support of related EPBC services, including but not limited to marketing and communication procedure manuals and audience-specific resources
Content Development – Various Mediums (30%)
  • Create content for both department and organizational initiatives, aligning writing and design styles to EPBC’s brand strategy
  • Create and design marketing collateral and publications for a variety of marketing and engagement events (e.g. infographic cards for engagement events)
  • Develop, create, and manage effective copy and content that encompasses organic, paid and earned media for digital and non-digital purposes
  • Research and recommend different collateral and publication materials, tools and mediums to maximize the impact and engagement of marketing and communication initiatives
  • Create, write, edit, and proofread content on EPBC’s website
  • Provide support, as required, on various web initiatives
  • Ensure online content supports Search Engine Optimization, EPBC’s brand standards, and web style guidelines
  • Work with Marketing and Engagement team to design and implement website updates and enhancements
  • Plan social editorial strategies, as well as custom content for visual platforms such as Facebook videos, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Research and apply the appropriate communication style for a variety of audiences (e.g. Students, Post-Secondary Institutions, and Government)
  • Write and edit communication pieces such as newsletters, summer tech updates, reports and email messages as requested
  • Develop and edit reports, such as annual engagement and outreach reports
Brand Management (20%)
  • Support the development and management of EPBC’s brand to ensure consistent and proper use across all channels
  • Participate in systems and services enhancement projects related to improving EPBC’s brand image
  • Develop and oversee marketing and communication projects, including providing strategy, guidance, and recommendations to ensure consistency with brand use
  • Ensure brand consistency through all marketing channels, including engagement and outreach events and activities
  • Liaise with EPBC teams and ensure brand consistency
  • Generate innovative ideas to promote EPBC brand and its services
Data and Reporting (15%)
  • Develop and present analytical data to support marketing and communication strategies, and make recommendations
  • Create, measure, and report effective benchmarks for performance of marketing campaigns, and assess against marketing goals, for example ROIs and KPIs
  • Research and make recommendations on strategy for social media, content marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and advertising campaigns based on report and data
  • Collect and leverage user (client) data to develop marketing campaigns
  • Develop and execute research objectives for content and design initiatives, for example website layout, content design, etc.
  • Forecast market trends and keep current/on-top of marketing best practices
Outreach and Engagement Support (5%)
  • Participate at engagement and outreach events and deliver presentations on behalf of EPBC as required
  • Respond to a variety of questions from students, applicants, teachers, high school counsellors, and parents on BC post-secondary institutions, financial aid, scholarships, awards, post-secondary student services and more during outreach and engagement events
  • Bring forward ideas and different mediums to engage and connect with diverse student groups to promote EPBC and its services

Education, Knowledge and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, creative writing, or a related field and 3 years of related experience in a marketing and/or communications role
  • Understanding of the BC post-secondary system or government environment preferred
  • Experience in post-secondary education and administration with an understanding of BC’s post-secondary system considered an asset
  • Strong, in-depth knowledge and understanding of the strategic deployment of digital platforms and their respective participants (Google Analytics, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinetrest, etc.)
  • A deep understanding of concepts like customer/user lifecycle and journey, inbound marketing and content marketing
  • Excellent communication skills, both in verbal and written; adept
  • Strong experience in sourcing, managing, and publishing content including the use of design tools (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency with web design and content management systems, and post sharing on digital and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrate strong experience with marketing campaigns and web technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Demonstrated ability to map out a successful comprehensive marketing plan and drive strategies that are proven through testing and metrics

Decision Making Authority
Decisions generally affect their own job, procedures, and the department in which the employee works. Through the collaborative nature of EPBC, decisions may also impact the workflow or reputation of other departments. In some instances, decisions may impact stakeholders, though management supervision generally limits this position's impact on decisions.

Working Conditions               
This position is expected to have the normal working conditions expected of a professional office role. Additional working conditions include:
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be assigned, on occasion, in response to critical issues or in lieu of regularly scheduled weekday shifts.
  • Possible eye strain from the constant viewing of electronic displays (i.e. computer monitors)
  • Occasional travel may be required
