This role is responsible for delivering marketing and communications initiatives and support for Coast Mental Health Foundation (the “Foundation”), the fundraising arm of Coast Mental Health (“CMH”). This includes creating messaging for multiple channels with the goal of increasing donor recruitment/retention and assisting the fundraising team in meeting fundraising revenue targets.

You would report directly to the Foundation’s Executive Director and work in close collaboration with the entire fundraising team. You will have a 3 - 4 month overlap with the current Marketing and Communications Manager, to ensure a smooth transition.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Implement an annual marketing and communications plan for the Foundation
  • Actively contribute to the Foundation’s fund development strategy, working closely to support each team member across their specific activities (Courage To Come Back Awards, Courage 2 Go Further event, mid/major donor stewardship, corporate donors, monthly donors, peer to peer fundraising and annual donors etc.)  
  • Source and write compelling client stories from across the organisations that demonstrate the impact of donors.
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of compelling  collateral (print, photos, videos, etc.) and content for the website, email marketing, newsletters, social media, direct mail and the Foundation’s Annual Report, etc.
  • Run the Foundation’s email marketing program
  • Run the Foundation’s social media channels (in collaboration with Coast Mental Health’s communication team)
  • Oversee the End of Year campaign and Direct Mail piece with support from the Fund Development team
  • Manage the website (Foundation portion) through ongoing content development and optimization.
  • Act as day-to-day contact for creative agencies overseeing web initiatives, paid social media campaigns, and collateral design.
  • Partner with the Senior Manager of Communications and Community Development for CMH on a brand strategy that supports both sides of the organization, as well as celebrating CMH’s 50th anniversary in 2022.


This is a for Maternity Leave coverage. Anticipated end date will be April 2023.


Overview of Coast

Coast Mental Health (CMH) is a Vancouver-based non-profit that has been helping people living with mental health challenges since 1972. Its foundation, Coast Mental Health Foundation (CMHF), raises funds to provide essential housing, support, and employment services for people with mental illness so they can find their meaningful place in our community – a place to live, a place to connect, and a place to work.



  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in journalism, communications, marketing, and/or public relations, or equivalent experience.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in strategic communications, marketing, and/or digital marketing.
  • Experience in a fundraising environment highly recommended
  • Experience working in mental health or the health care sector would be an asset




  • Understanding – or willingness to learn – about fundraising communications including donor/community-led communications
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, a flair for storytelling while understanding the sensitive nature of the stories being told.
  • Strong project management skills to lead the development of communications tools/initiatives and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong team work and networking skills; building relationships within the organisation and with clients is key to collecting and sharing stories from across Coast Mental Health
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the advanced features of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Adept at using social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
  • Familiarity with updating content using WordPress.
  • Graphic design skills and familiarity with tools such as Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite would be considered assets.
  • Comfortable with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact preferred)
  • Knowledge of/ experience with a donor management system (Raiser’s Edge preferred) an asset
