PR Student: Nisha Borshettar

NishaWhat is your name? And what are you studying?

My name is Nisha Borshettar and I am currently a PR student enrolled in SFU's Public Relations Certificate Program.

What is your average day like?

Apart from school, an average day for me entails a good workout, tutoring a bright 16 year old entrepreneur in English, Math, Science and Socials, a quick coffee with a friend/collegue and of course spending some time with family. Lately, watching an episode of Prison break every night keeps me up later than usual; it is such a gripping show, I can't stop!

Are you a 'night owl' or an 'early bird'?

As much as I love an early morning start, I have to say I am more of a 'night owl' than an 'early bird'.

What appeals to you most about working in PR?

Coming from a background in Communications, PR has always been a field I have been extremely curious and interested about. Four weeks into the PR program at SFU, what appeals to me most about the field is the fact that as a PR professional there is no typical day at work. PR has such a broad range of topics that it keeps the job stimulating, challenging and exciting which is why I love the field!

What's your dream job?

My dream job is to be a PR professional working for a luxury fashion brand.

What is your favorite PR campaign?

In general, I like all the campaigns executed by Dove; my favorite one from 2012 is the Dove 'real beauty' campaign where Dove encouraged people to tweet or text questions to 'spread the love' on Valentine's Day with responses streamed in real time through an interactive screen at Victoria Station in London.

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook is my favorite social network; I find it to be a platform that reaches out to an audience that isn't necessarily on your radar. Twitter would have to be my second favorite.

Which coffee shop are you most likely to frequent?

I don't drink coffee or tea on a daily basis but when I do, I would be seen at a Starbucks for their tazo peppermint tea!

A fun fact about you:

In the last two years, I have been bitten by the travelling bug - I have travelled to India to work in the field of Marketing for a year after which I visited by Bali, Mexico and New York. I am very interested in the topic of psychology and human behavior because I feel it is extremely essential in understanding your audience and being able to be a part of any environment. A combination of music, dance and white wine is my idea of fun!
