Malka Aujla

What’s your average day like?

Currently, my day starts at 5:30am with a power workout; then I have school for seven hours. After school, I am often rushing to get to my volunteering and tutoring sessions. Then, I complete my homework assignments. If there is time, I catch up on my favourite shows; if not, I’m asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Are you an ‘early bird’ or ‘night owl’?

I am definitely an early bird. I like to have an early start to my day so that I can get as much done as possible without having to rush or feel like I don’t have enough time to complete my daily tasks.

What appeals to you most about working in PR?

I love the energy involved in PR. It’s such a dynamic career, and it has multiple career paths; therefore, I’m not restricted to following just one road. Also, building a business network, working with diverse organizations, and being a part of the bridge that connects organizations to the media and the public is an appealing aspiration. This is what I was born to do.

What’s your dream job?

Presently, I hope to be a partner at an agency some day.

What’s your favourite PR campaign?

At the moment, I am fascinated by the PR campaign for the upcoming movie Dead Man Down. There was a stunt recorded for YouTube called “Elevator Murder Experiment”, where one actor is pretending to choke another actor. There are hidden cameras inside and outside the elevator that record the reactions of people that witness this unknowingly staged event. It is shocking to see how some people react. I find it to be a very intriguing PR campaign for a movie simply because it incorporated a social experiment that shows the psychology behind action versus reaction in human beings.

Who is your PR idol?

Out of the PR professionals that I have had the pleasure to meet over the past few weeks, I have to say that Fawn Mulcahy is my PR idol. She is a PR superstar and a seasoned professional. She is knowledgeable, informative, and she seems to really love her career. I admire that.

What’s your favourite social network?

Twitter, because it helps me keep up with local, national, and international news, as well as my guilty pleasures for celebrity gossip and dark humour.

Which coffee shop are you most likely to frequent?

Thierry Patisserie, and not specifically for the coffee, but for their scrumptious macarons.

A fun fact about you:

I went sky diving for my 23rdbirthday, which happened to be on Friday the 13th last year.
