Stamp of approval
When it comes to advancing your career in the PR industry, Samson Cheng, the 2013 winner of the CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship and new member of the Jive Communications team, advises students to always think three steps ahead.
For Cheng, this meant having a forecast for what he wanted to achieve throughout his studies in the PR program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and after graduation. One of these goals was to be recognized by CPRS Vancouver as a scholarship winner.
“I first heard about the CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship from my first mentor in the PR industry,” says Cheng. “I saw it as a stamp of approval to confirm I have skills necessary to advance my career. So, I made it a goal to strive for since the first day of class.”
Cheng says the scholarship application is also a great way to test your skills and get feedback on your work.
“Having professionals assess your skills and provide constructive criticism is invaluable – you can only move forward from that point.”
