Emily Kiloh caught up with SFU PR student Tricia Hoy to chat about Public Relations, and to hear a few of her goals. Tricia, a passionate and eloquent leader, is currently applying her awesome public speaking and communications skills to her practicum at the Vancouver School Board.
Tell us Tricia…
1. What made you choose a career in Public Relations?
I discovered there were always elements of Public Relations in my professional life that I was passionate about. This translated into embracing the Public Relations Professional in me, and moving powerfully into a fulfilling career in communications.
2. What do you love about this industry?
As an avid communicator, I love that Public Relations presents daily challenges in communications, which I wholeheartedly believe is significant in every aspect of daily life.
3. What are you most excited to learn more about?
I am most excited to learn more about and build my presence through social media, which I have experienced as a lightening-speed form of communication that can elevate a business or define a personal brand.
4. What’s your favourite news site?
I’m a fan of our local news site, The Vancouver Province.
5. Favourite social network?
My favourite social network is definitely LinkedIn. Getting to know people on a professional level as well as discovering their accomplishments is inspirational for me.
6. What’s your dream job?
My dream job would be working as a Public Relations Professional in an organization related to community relations, public service, or a non-profit organization supporting youth that would utilize my strengths in public speaking, facilitation and written communications.
7. If you could fly anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Without a doubt, I would go to New York!
Fun fact: Tricia worked as a firefighter for over four years.
