Where are you studying and what’s the name of your program?
Kwantlen Polytechnic University- Diploma in Public Relations
Describe your average day.
My average day consists of waking up early and having my morning coffee while I get ready for class. I go to school four days a week, which keeps me fairly busy. After class I like to come home, make dinner for myself and read news regarding entertainment and pop culture. I also love to keep up to date on all my favourite TV shows like Orange Is The New Black, Modern Family, Scandal, and Ellen (yes, I may be a TV junkie).
Are you an ‘early bird’ or ‘night owl’? What helps you get your work done?
I would consider myself a little bit of both. I don’t like to wake up super early but I also don’t like to go to bed really late. Finding that balance is honestly what really helps me ensure I am not just getting my work done, but also getting it done to the best of my ability.
What appeals to you most about working in PR?
What appeals me most to the field of public relations is how every day is different. You are always being creative, working with a very large network of people, being innovative, and constantly writing. Every day brings a new challenge and a new way of thinking. All in all, the best thing about PR is you are always learning.
How would you describe yourself out of the following three categories; an organizer, a creative or a strategist?
I like to consider myself a fairly creative person. I like to write articles, plan events, and work with lots of different people.
What’s your dream job?
My dream job would be to work for the Ellen Degeneres Show as a public relations specialist. She is such a unique, kind, and talented professional who I think really shines a positive light on the entertainment industry.
What’s your favourite PR campaign?
My favourite PR campaign that I have come across lately is probably the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. ALS is a disease that isn’t talked about nearly enough considering how serious it is. It was really nice to see a campaign that really shed a light on what ALS is and how you can help.
What’s your favourite social network and why?
My favourite social network would probably be Instagram. I feel like Instagram truly allows people to be creative in what they want to share with the public. You can really learn a lot about someone (especially what fancy foods they like to eat) simply through this network. Like everyone always says, a picture truly is worth a thousand words.
Which media outlet do you use most to get your news?
I tend to read most of my news from Yahoo. Mainly because it is the homepage on my mac and it also provides article links to other news resources. In addition, I find Yahoo really easy to use.
Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Ten years from now I hope to be a practicing public relations specialist in entertainment. Hopefully living in Vancouver, Los Angeles, or New York City.
A fun fact about you:
An interesting fact about me is I moved all the way from Ontario to British Columbia to pursue my education in Public Relations. After completing my undergraduate degree from Western University I knew that I wanted something more hands on and job ready. That is when I came across the Kwantlen PR program and began my trek across the country.
