Calling all students! If you’re looking for a standout point of distinction on your resume, recognition for your hard work, and funds to put towards career or learning advancement, the 2016 CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship should be on your radar.
Awarded each year to a student who submits an excellent project for a real-world client, the CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship is open to current student members of CPRS Vancouver who are and also enrolled in a public relations or communications program in the Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley. And, for the first time, this year the scholarship is open to part-time students as well as those studying full-time. Up for grabs is a $2,000 prize.
This year, to better accommodate students who are also managing end-of-year assignments, the closing date for submissions has moved forward from the April deadline of previous years, and entries will be accepted from now until midnight (PST) on Thursday, March 24, 2016.
Vanessa Mora, recipient of the 2015 scholarship, used examples from her work co-ordinating the PR for national professional nail competition, Canada Nail Cup in her application, showcasing a complete media relations plan, media materials and campaign results.
Vanessa Mora receives the 2015 CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship from Ashley Castellan, director of the CPRS Vancouver student portfolio.
Mora was encouraged to apply by director of the CPRS Vancouver student portfolio, Ashley Castellan, and says that, despite being initially intimidated due to the high standard of work she knew her peers were capable of, she is glad that she was convinced to submit an entry. For her, winning the scholarship has not only been personally fulfilling but has given her confidence when applying for jobs. The $2,000 prize also funded her final semester tuition, meaning one less pressure in her last year at school.
