People Woman Coffee Meeting

Anyone working in PR or communications will tell you that the most important part about starting your career is to building a solid network. Being a part of a professional organization as a student, is a great springboard to launch you into the field of PR. It can help you stay current in the industry, allows you to learn and explore, get involved with volunteer opportunities, and of course, meeting and connecting with other professionals.

Here are five reasons why students should join CPRS Vancouver:

  1. Discounted fees for events and workshops

Networking, networking, and networking! This is the major reason why joining CPRS is great for students. There are constantly exciting events happening all year long and you will find that we host great PR-related seminars, student-only workshops, social networking events, webinars, and much more. All of these special occasions offer excellent opportunities for students to network and get in touch with local working PR professionals. You don’t want to miss out on our popular and fun holiday social in December!

  1. Scholarship opportunities

One of the many perks about being a student member are the scholarships. The CPRS Vancouver Student Scholarship, awards a one-time $2000 prize each year to a student who submits a first-rate project for a real-world client. The deadline to submit this year is April 27, 2018. Past winners have received job offers and other opportunities due to winning the scholarship.

  1. Access to the job board

Want first dibs on job opportunities? In this internet day and age, there are countless of job boards out there which aren’t helpful in obtaining interviews or landing actual jobs. Our job board allows members only to view and post, which means you’ll be searching through credible job postings with real hiring managers looking for talent. This is perfect for students who are in their final year of university and are starting to think about looking for employment. This can help take off the pressure of job hunting and allow you to focus on your grades!

  1. Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, grow your skills, and it’s something good to add to your resume if you’re a student lacking some job experience. You can volunteer with us by doing something you are already good at, or you can expand your knowledge and try something new.

  1. Bi-weekly Essentials e-newsletter

Stay connected through our e-newsletter, which covers membership news, industry trends, events, jobs, and more.  It’s another great resource for students as they begin to develop their careers and are seeking more information about the PR or communications industry.

If you’re a student who is thinking about new ways to expand your knowledge, gain experience and begin to build your network, getting involved with CPRS Vancouver is an absolutely great place to start.
